Self Catering Cottages – now with added WiFi!

News and Events, Our Journey

When we were first looking at Cliff House, we did a survey that had quite a far reach in terms of the numbers of people that kindly responded.  As a part of that survey we asked what people look for when searching for a holiday cottage to rent.  Some of the results we could anticipate, and others came as a bit of surprise.

  • 54% of respondents looked for a good variety of places to visit – we have that in spades in the Vale of Pickering here in North Yorkshire.  Whether that is that North York Moors Railway, Flamingo Land, Castle Howard and much much more –  you name it we have something for everyone.
  • 55% of those who were kind enough to respond wanted a place to eat nearby – we have The Grapes just 3 minutes walk away.  The Grapes has been a feature in Ebberston for hundreds of years and serves good beers and great food.  Further away in the next villages we have The Coachman in Snainton and The Cayley Arms in Allerston.  These can be walked to, probably as an afternoon’s walk, or they are a short drive away.
  • 66% of respondents wanted walks from cottage – we have a good selection of short walks (including to our local pubs!) available from our front door.  We are starting to share them up on our website.  Also in each of our cottages we have route cards for 20 walks in and around the North York Moors National Park, most of which can be reached within an hour.
  • 75% of people who answered our survey looked for wifi/internet connectivity – whilst we could address the other top 4 things people looked for in a self catering holiday cottage, providing wifi and internet connectivity across a large site where many of the self catering cottages have walls that 3 feet thick in places would be a challenge.

As of today we now have wireless coverage in all of our self catering cottages (and half way up the garden too).  This should be good for most people’s needs and we will keep it under review when start to receive guests in the summer.
