Romantic Breaks in North Yorkshire
Cottages for Couples at Cliff House
Finding the right place for a short break as a couple is often about balance.
Somewhere quiet, but not cut off.
Plenty to do nearby, but no pressure to do any of it.
At Cliff House Holiday Cottages, you’ll find a calmer base on the edge of the North York Moors, with the coast, countryside and market towns all within easy reach.
It’s somewhere to slow things down, without over complicating it.
A quieter base for time together
Our cottages are set across two acres of gardens and woodland in the village of Ebberston.
Each one gives you:
- Your own kitchen and living space
- Room to settle in properly, not just stay
- Easy access to outdoor space and walks from the door
It’s not about creating a “perfect” break.
It’s about giving you the space to enjoy your time without needing to plan too much.
We had an excellent stay at Cliff House Holiday Cottages. The cottage was comfortable, warm and well equipped. The swimming pool was brilliant – warm and clean and great to have a games room above.Pretty gardens. Good location for exploring North Yorkshire Moors and a friendly welcome.
We had a weekend stay and it was lovely. Lovely cottage, gorgeous location and central for a lot of things. We had 3 dogs with us and it was genuinely dog friendly and great for walking.
I cannot recommend this place enough. From the moment we arrived we felt very relaxed, from the little personal touches in the rooms with homemade cookies and bread, to the beautiful gardens this place is a little treasure.
I would highly recommend Cliff House cottages as a base for anything in that area of North Yorkshire, you are close to York, Malton, multiple seaside towns and several good wildlife locations, including RSPB Bempton Cliffs. Definitely hoping to go back again.
Shared spaces that don’t feel busy
One of the things couples often tell us they value most is being able to use facilities without them feeling crowded.
During your stay, you’ll have access to:
- An indoor heated swimming pool with private sessions
- A games room with pool table and table tennis
- Gardens, seating areas and quieter corners to sit out
The setup is simple, but it works well, especially if you’re looking for something more relaxed than a hotel.
Close to the coast and the moors
You don’t need to travel far to make the most of your time here.
Within 20 minutes you can reach:
- The North York Moors National Park
- Dalby Forest
- The coast at Scarborough
- Market towns like Pickering and Malton
You can head out for the day, or keep things local and take things at your own pace.
Evenings, your way
Evenings at Cliff House tend to be straightforward.
- Cook in your cottage
- Pick something up locally
- Or walk to the village pub just a few minutes away
No need to book everything in advance or build a full itinerary.
Cottages suited to couples
Several of our cottages work particularly well for couples, whether you’re staying for a few nights or a longer break.
Planning your stay
Couples breaks tend to book up quickly for weekends and during the quieter shoulder months when the area is less busy.
If you’re thinking about getting something in the diary, it’s worth checking availability early.
Pear Loft
Originally a space to store fruit, this has been a childrens play room as well in the past. Now Pear Loft is redecorated and part refurbished as a romantic self catering getaway with exposed oak beams. Pear Loft comprises a doubled bedroom, complete with chandelier, a comfortable sitting room with TV and DVD player and a spacious fully fitted kitchen with dining area and views over the garden. Spend time in our 2 acres acres of grounds, exploring our lavender lined path to our Orangery or explore our own private woodland.
Apple Cottage
Apple Cottage is converted from the laundry and apple store of Cliff House, a Grade II listed manor house, set within 2 acres of grounds (Apple Cottage sounds so much better than Laundry Cottage!). Recently redecorated, including locally sourced fabrics and crafts, this perfect little cottage comprises a private entrance to ground floor with a fully fitted kitchen and dining area. Apple welcomes one well behaved dog.
