PHOTOGRAPHY IN YORKSHIRE
LANDSCAPES, SEASCAPES AND PEOPLE
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to photography in Yorkshire. Whether that’s photographing the chalk cliffs at dawn around Flamborough or the boats in the harbour in Staithes, if the sea takes your fancy. Up on the North York Moors the North Yorkshire Moors Railway provides plenty of opportunities, particularly when the heather is in full bloom and the engines in full steam. Even the stations provide interesting vignettes of visitors and volunteers going about their routines. Waterfalls throughout the county provide particular focus, especially in Autumn when the colours explode in to vibrant yellows and coppers. Consider a short walk to Falling Foss or Thomason Foss. Often forgotten are the Yorkshire Wolds to the south of our holiday rental cottages, a gently rolling chalk downland like landscape with hedge rows providing strong leading lines.
Despite the plethora of photography guide books for areas such as The Lake District; North Yorkshire and the Coast finds itself lacking. There is only one book, that we are aware of, but it does offer a good taste of what the county has to offer. You can find out more here.
We have a number of friends who are professional photographers that can offer you tailored one to one (or one to many) tuition, more details of them at the bottom of the page. Of course we are always on hand to offer what advice and knowledge that we have to share about where to shoot to make the best of your stay.
