A Walk to Thomason Foss Waterfalls

Places to Visit, Things to Do

Setting out from the small hamlet of Beck Hole in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, this 500m walk takes you to quite an attractive waterfall called Thomason Foss.  The path can be quite steep (with steps) in places and after heavy rain it can be a bit “soft” under foot, so please be careful.

To get there, park up in Beck Hole and on the opposite side of the bridge from the Birch Hall Inn, a path leads up hill following the course of the Eller Beck river.  At times the path will come close to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and if you stand a while, you may be rewarded with a steam train going past.

Afterwards, you could visit the Birch Hall Inn for a drink – it doesn’t claim to have the smallest bar in the country, but it does come close.  For those who like their trains, The Model Centre is nearby and worth a visit.  If you are feeling energetic, you may want to link up a walk with Thomason Foss, with a walk to the Mallyan Spout water fall a few kilometers away, following the West Beck.
