Clyvedon Castle and Clyvedon (aka Castle Howard and Coneysthorpe)

Places to Eat, Places to Visit, Walking

Clyvedon and the land of Bridgerton

On Sunday, we took a scenic walk around the stunning Castle Howard Estate, a must-visit for any “Bridgerton” fan! Castle Howard famously portrays Clyvedon Castle, the grand home of the Duke and Duchess of Hastings in the hit Netflix series.

Our day began with a delicious start at Dogh Bakery in the village of Welburn, nestled in the Howardian Hills. Bacon rolls and espresso fuelled us up for our leisurely 7-mile walk along easy farm tracks. Throughout the walk, we caught glimpses of iconic Estate landmarks like the Pyramid, the grand Mausoleum, and, of course, Castle Howard itself – or as fans of “Bridgerton” will know it, Clyvedon Castle.

We also passed through the picturesque estate village of Coneysthorpe, which doubles as the charming village of Clyvedon in the show. It’s like stepping straight into a scene from the series, with the tranquil village streets offering a beautiful slice of the Bridgerton world.

The area around Castle Howard offers a variety of well-marked trails, perfect for walkers of all levels. With an Ordnance Survey map in hand, you can tailor your route to suit your pace. We chose to start and finish in Welburn, as it gave us the chance to end the walk with a relaxing pint and some shared chips at the Crown and Cushion pub.

Best of all, Castle Howard and its surrounding “Bridgerton” locations are just a short drive from Cliff House Holiday Cottages, making it an ideal day out for anyone staying with us! Whether you’re a fan of the show or simply love stunning scenery, Castle Howard is a must-see during your stay.
