With the 2nd season of the popular Netflix show Bridgerton now announced, many of you will be doing a happy dance.  Bridgerton is based on a series of 8 novels set in the Regency period by the historical romantic novelist Julia Quinn.  The series revolves the eight siblings of the Bridgerton family and their widowed mother and how the siblings find love.

What you may not know is that here at Cliff House Holiday Cottages, is that we are not far from a number of the locations used in Bridgerton.

Castle Howard

Castle Howard, which has provided a back drop for many other dramas including Brideshead Revisited (TV and film versions) and Victoria – where Castle Howard doubled for Kensington Palace.  In Bridgerton, Castle Howard plays the part of Clyvedon Castle which is the family seat of the Duke of Hastings, and Daphne’s marital home.

Castle Howard is one of England’s most popular stately homes for visiting.  The Castle took over 100 years to complete, with construction starting in 1701.  That’s  just 49 years before the start of Cliff House House!  Castle Howard is also close to the Yorkshire Arboretum – which you could (if you have the time) visit as a part of your trip.  For more information about Castle Howard, please visit here.

As a part of the wider Castle Howard estate the village of Coneysethorpe also doubles as the village of Clyvedon in Bridgerton. In Clyvedon, if you are a fan you may remember, the new Duke and Duchess of Hastings attend the village fair.  At the fair Daphne makes a blunder by pardoning a pig from slaughter, causing all of the villagers to hate her because – they were planning on eating it!  The Centenary Way long-distance path runs through the village.
