A visit to Byland Abbey

Places to Visit, Things to Do

Byland Abbey is one of the many monastic ruins that are short drive away from Cliff House Holiday Cottages. Founded by monks who had a tough start on their journey – left to found a new abbey, founded new abbey, ransacked by the Scots, returned to parent Abbey, not allowed back in to parent abbey, etc., etc…

A visit to Byland is free and take you through some of the least explored areas of North Yorkshire, including the Howardian Hills Area of Natural Beauty. You could link in a visit to nearby Sutton Bank National Park Centre or the more complete ruins of an Abbey at Rievaulx.  For more details about Byland Abbey, visit here.
