The Hairy Bikers Go North: A Culinary Adventure through Yorkshire
If you’re a fan of the Hairy Bikers, you may have caught their series, Hairy Bikers Go North, where the popular cooking duo, Si King and the late Dave Myers, took viewers on a culinary journey through the North of England. Their exploration of Yorkshire’s food scene was a highlight, featuring local producers, traditional recipes, and the rich cultural heritage of the region.
The series showcased Yorkshire in all its glory, with Si and Dave visiting a variety of producers, markets, and eateries, highlighting the best of local ingredients. From delicious local cheeses to expertly crafted charcuterie and mouth-watering baked goods, Hairy Bikers Go North celebrated the culinary talent that makes Yorkshire such a special place to visit.
A Tribute to Dave Myers
The series takes on even more significance following the sad passing of Dave Myers, who was loved for his warm, down-to-earth personality and infectious passion for food. His death marked the end of an era for the Hairy Bikers, whose friendship and shared love of cooking brought joy to millions of viewers over the years. The Yorkshire episodes of Hairy Bikers Go North now stand as a poignant reminder of Dave’s contributions, not only to British food television but also to the celebration of local, sustainable ingredients.
Yorkshire’s Culinary Scene
In Hairy Bikers Go North, Dave and Si explored some of Yorkshire’s most iconic culinary traditions. They visited farms, restaurants, and small food businesses, championing the people behind the produce and the techniques that have been passed down through generations. Yorkshire is known for its vast array of local food, and the Hairy Bikers took full advantage of the region’s offerings, featuring everything from Yorkshire puddings to artisanal bread and meats.
One concentrated on the Yorkshire Coast and the delights of that, whilst also sneaking inland to Talbot Yard in Malton to sample the delights of Florian Poirot’s macaron (he makes other things as well, but his speciality is macaron). Aside from Florian in the Talbot Yard in Malton there is a butcher (highly recommended), a baker, a coffee shop, a gin distiller and an ice cream maker. All just 25 minutes away our self catering cottages in Ebberston on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
The other episode of The Hairy Bikers adventures took them on to the North York Moors National Park. Based out of Helmsley, they visited a heritage pig breeder, a honey maker (is that the right term?) and The Black Swan in Oldstead. The Black Swan is one of a number of Michelin starred restaurants in the area.
