Yes, you can!

One of the highlights for many younger guests is helping to feed our chickens each day. It's one of those small holiday moments that often ends up being talked about long after the suitcases have been unpacked.

In this reel, Alastair explains how to feed the birds safely, but also shares the surprising origins of the phrases "pecking order" and "hen-pecked". It turns out our feathered residents have had quite an influence on the English language.

We're also pleased to hear the games room was such a hit. From the pool and games room to our two acres of gardens and woodland, we've tried to create a place where families can spend quality time together while still having space to enjoy their own adventures.

This reel is really about memories.

Long before we arrived at Cliff House in 2020, Alastair, Jacqueline and family spent many holidays exploring the UK in a campervan. On one trip to the Outer Hebrides, they visited the Blue Pig Gallery and bought a bar of lovage soap.

The soap's creator had based it on his memories of his grandmother running a bath with bunches of lovage tucked under the hot tap, allowing the warm water to release its distinctive scent.

The story was memorable, but so was the smell.

Years later, after moving to Cliff House, Alastair planted lovage in the garden because that fragrance had stayed with him all that time. Even now, brushing past the plant on a summer's day brings back memories of those campervan adventures, the Hebrides, and that small gallery by the sea.

It's remarkable how a scent can connect places and memories across the years.

Never content to rest on our laurels, we've got @n

Never content to rest on our laurels, we've got @nigewats from the village in today to complete a small project that started last year with the addition of double glazed patio doors to replace a single glazed window and wooden surround.

This was supported with grant funding and helps us be more sustainable through less energy wastage (when the doors are closed!).

With the steps being added we will then compliment them with a picnic bench outside the patio doors.

The weather forecast is looking promising, and when the temperature starts to rise, there's nothing quite like a swim.

One of the advantages of staying at Cliff House Holiday Cottages is having access to our indoor heated pool, whatever the weather decides to do. Whether it's an early morning dip, some family splash time, or a chance to unwind after a day exploring the coast, moors or market towns, it's all part of your stay.
Each cottage has its own allocated private pool sessions, so you'll have the space to enjoy it at your own pace.

A big thank you to everyone who chose to stay with us during June. It's been a busy month, and we've enjoyed welcoming both returning guests and first-time visitors to Cliff House Holiday Cottages.

As we look ahead to the summer holidays, availability is now becoming limited:

📅 July
• Granary Cottage (sleeps 4) is available during the first week of July.
• Orchard House (sleeps 6) is available during the second week of July and the final week of the month.

📅 August
• Just one week remains available in Orchard House during the second week of August.
• We also have a rare long weekend available in Orchard House at the end of August.

Whether you're looking for family time by the coast, days out on the North York Moors, or somewhere to unwind with access to our indoor pool, games room and two acres of gardens, we'd love to welcome you.
