North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Levisham Pub Walk

There’s nothing better than a walk that involves a stop at a pub.  We went out for a 10 mile hike from nearby Saltergate over to Newton Dale to see the trains running on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. After seeing the 0920 pass on its way to Whitby, we (me and our dog Udal) headed down to Levisham station to watch the trains pass and the hand over of the all important “token”, which allows the train to work along that stretch of track.

From there we headed up to Levisham village to have a pint at The Horseshoe before heading back to Saltergate skirting the top of the Hole of Horcum.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs daily services that stop from Pickering to Grosmont and also a through service that goes all the way to Whitby on the coast. For more details, visit their website.

Pickering the starting point for the NYMR is only 15 minutes from our cottages at Cliff House, as is Saltergate car park – the start of this walk.
