National Railway Museum, York

News and Events, Places to Visit

York is an ideal day trip location from our self catering holiday cottages in the Vale of Pickering.  You can either drive in to York in under hour or drive as far Malton and then let the hourly train service from Malton take the strain and take you in to York.  York has many great attractions, as you would expect from a place that once the Capital of the Roman Empire, including the Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum.  The National Railway Museum is one of our favourites, as it is open all year round, has great exhibitions and it is free as well.

As well as visiting the National Rail Museum you can take a walk around the City Walls, visit the Shambles (where allegedly the name came from) and the local Museum amongst many other things.
