🌱 From Compost to Cottage Garden: Growing Sustainably at Cliff House

We often say you don’t need to go far to find something special here at Cliff House Holiday Cottages — and that includes what’s growing just outside our door.

Over the past few months, we’ve been quietly building up our eco-friendly gardening practices. From collecting food scraps and garden cuttings for compost to nurturing seedlings and harvesting rainwater, we’ve loved seeing our garden thrive — with a little help from nature and a lot of love from us.

In our latest video, you’ll spot:

  • Our homegrown seedlings, raised from scratch in our potting shed

  • A peek at our compost heap — a surprisingly satisfying part of cottage life

  • Alastair sieving compost and potting on plants using this nutrient-rich soil

  • Jacqueline planting into the borders with plants we grew from seed

  • Watering from one of our water butts — a small but important way to conserve water

It’s all part of our effort to garden more mindfully, reduce waste, and make Cliff House not just a beautiful place to visit, but a sustainable one too.

We know guests don’t come here just for a break — they come to slow down, reconnect, and maybe take away a few ideas for their own garden or lifestyle. Whether you’re relaxing under the trees or taking a stroll past our flower beds, we hope you feel a little bit of the care that goes into keeping Cliff House green — in every sense.
