Circular walk to Lastingham from Hutton-le-Hole

Places to Eat, Places to Visit, Things to Do, Walking

To Lastingham!

We went on a lovely 6 mile circular walk that took in the area around Hutton-le-Hole in the North York Moors National Park. Starting in Hutton-Le Hole we headed to the small and very picturesque village of Lastingham, which dates back to at least the 600’s AD. St Mary’s, the church in Lastingham, started off life as a monastery around the 700’s with some stone work of the current church being dated to 1078. The church is well worth a visit to see inside and the crypt which houses some carved crosses that were used as boundary markers on the surrounding moors. (Also it has a fine selection of good homemade jams, pickles and marmalades on sale within the church). Also well worth a visit is Blacksmith’s Arms, the village pub. Offering a good selection of beers and quality food made using local produce – bar opens at 11, food service starts from 1200hrs.

From Lastingham we pulled up through some woods following an old hollow way and walked through the village of Spaunton before heading out in to open country. From there we headed back to Hutton-Le-Hole for lunch at The Crown and to watch the village duck race!
