We went on fantastic snowy winter walk from the car park at Saltergate in the North York Moors National Park with views across the Hole of Horcum. Just 15 minutes from our cottages. We walked our across the moors, taking in the view across to Blakey Topping (and just making out the remains of a stone circle at its foot) before arriving at the Bridestones for coffee and cake. Local legend has it that Wade the Giant scooped up a handful of earth to throw at his wife during an argument. Thus creating the Hole of Horcum and the Blakey Topping (where the earth landed)!
The Bridestones are a series of isolated sandstone rock outcrops or tors that have survived the last ice age.
From the Bridestones we lost height (which of course means we have to regain it at some point to get back to the car :/ ) as we descended in to Dovedale. From Dovedale, we headed back up hill and across the main Pickering to Whitby road before descending in to the Hole of Horcum and one final big pull back up to the car park at Saltergate.
At Cliff House Holiday Cottages we are Walker Friendly, meaning that we provide maps and guides of the local area as well as facilities to dry your kit off. And as we live on site, we are usually always around to help with advice as to how to make the most of your valuable holiday time.
