A Walk to Blakey Topping Stone Circle

Things to Do, Walking

Went for a walk last week to Blakey Topping and the stone circle (what’s left of it) that lies at the foot of it. A relatively easy 7km, that like many walks for us starts at the Saltergate Car Park just above the Hole of Horcum.

Having achieved the stone circle we looped back round via Malo Cross, which marks the boundary of the parish of Allerston (the next parish over from Ebberston) with the parish of Fylingdales. Malo Cross is one of the few remaining boundary crosses in the country, as most got smashed down during the reformation.  Next to the cross in a holloway is the track that linked Saltergate to Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire Coast

A gentle pull up hill using an old track way got us back on top of Salterbank and then back to the car park. A 20 min drive later and we were back home at the Cottages. 🙂

Our five holiday cottages are just on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and 20 minutes from the Yorkshire Coast.  Half way between the market town of Pickering and the seaside town of Scarborough, we offer a perfect year round base for exploring the foodie delights of the area.  Our range of five cottages include a 6 person cottage with one en suite and a further 2 bathrooms, as well as smaller cottages suitable for couples and people travelling own their own.  All of our cottages are set within 2 acres of grounds, are dog friendly and all cottages have access to our indoor heated swimming pool.
