A Week at Cliff House Holiday Cottages: Your 7-Day Itinerary in North Yorkshire

If you’re looking for family friendly cottages Yorkshire can truly be proud of, Cliff House Holiday Cottages in Ebberston offers the perfect base. With two acres of gardens, an indoor heated pool, play equipment, and even a woodland fire pit, our cottages give you the space to relax while also being close to the North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast.

Whether you’re travelling with children, holidaying as a couple, or gathering as a group of friends, there’s plenty to enjoy right on our doorstep. To help you plan, here’s our suggested 7-day itinerary — a balance of adventures and peaceful moments in the garden.

Day 1 – Arrival & Settle In

There’s no need to overdo it on your first day. After unpacking, wander through our gardens, meet the chickens and ducks, and let children burn off energy in the play area. In the evening, light the fire pit, toast marshmallows, and enjoy stargazing in the North York Moors National Park, a recognised Dark Skies Reserve — often with incredible views of the Milky Way.

Day 2 – Coast & Castle

Start your morning with a swim in our indoor pool before heading to Scarborough Castle, where panoramic views stretch over both North and South Bays. Fish and chips by the sea make the perfect lunch, followed by a stroll along the beach. You’ll find more ideas for things to do within 20 minutes of Cliff House on our blog.

Day 3 – Moors & Steam

Step aboard the North York Moors Railway for a scenic journey from Pickering to Goathland — famous as “Hogsmeade” in the first Harry Potter. (Also it may familiar to some as “Aidensfield in the ITV series “Heartbeat”. The line takes you across heather moorland and through wooded valleys. If the weather turns, you’ll still find plenty to enjoy — we’ve written about six things to do on a rainy day in Yorkshire.

Day 4 – Market Town & Makers

Spend the day in Malton, Yorkshire’s Food Capital. Sample local produce, browse independent shops, and pick up treats to cook back at your cottage. Later, settle into our Orangery with a good book, or step outside for some Dark Skies stargazing in Yorkshire — on clear nights the Milky Way is often visible.

Day 5 – Walk from the Door

One of the best parts of staying in family cottages near the North York Moors is being able to leave the car behind. From Cliff House there are walking routes into Dalby Forest and across the moorland. You can discover more in our guide to walks straight from Cliff House. For history lovers, a visit to Wharram Percy medieval village makes a fascinating detour.

Day 6 – Sea, Sand & Ice Cream

Take a trip to the coast — either the sweeping sands of Filey or the charm of Runswick Bay, one of the UK’s most celebrated beaches. Build sandcastles, paddle in the sea, and finish with an ice cream. Back at Cliff House, an evening swim is the perfect way to wash off the salt and sand.

Day 7 – Stay & Play

Spend your final day making the most of Cliff House itself. Start with a dip in the pool, then let the children enjoy the play area and gardens. Lunch outdoors, followed by games in the games room, rounds off your holiday perfectly. End with one last evening at the fire pit, chatting under the stars.

Plan Your Family Friendly Yorkshire Holiday

This 7-day itinerary is just a starting point — part of the joy of staying at Cliff House is that you can do as much or as little as you like. With the coast, moors, and market towns nearby, and all the facilities you need on site, we’re proud to be one of the most welcoming family friendly cottages Yorkshire has to offer.
