📚 Book Nook at Cliff House: Underground Stories and Autumn Light
Autumn at Cliff House Holiday Cottages is a time to slow down. The garden softens into russet and gold, the fire takes over from the sun as the main source of warmth, and time stretches — just enough — for a proper read.
We’ve been revisiting Underland by Robert Macfarlane, a book that explores the worlds beneath our feet: hidden caves, ancient burial sites, and the deep time of the landscape. It’s thoughtful and haunting in all the right ways — especially when read in a place like this, where history runs just under the surface and the land itself has stories to tell.
Here, you’ll find reading corners in each of our five cottages — by the fire, by a window, or tucked under a blanket after a walk on the Moors. There’s a shelf of books in every cottage (and more in the games room), ready for a quiet moment with a cup of tea and a slice of something home-baked.
Autumn is one of our favourite times at Cliff House. It’s quieter. Cooler. But somehow richer too. The skies get darker earlier — perfect for stargazing or simply curling up indoors with a book like Underland, where the world below is just as compelling as the one outside your window.
